Mountaintop Prayer at sunrise on January 1st of each year has been an Arizona tradition since the year 2000. This year it occurs at 7:32 am on Tuesday morning, January 1, 2019.
Each year BridgeBuilders and other ministries and churches of all denominations gather as families and friends and head for various Arizona mountaintops at sunrise to meet with God and usher in the New year.
IMPORTANT: North Mountain is closed for construction. Please note that there will be NO prayer on North Mountain this year.
Be sure to form your own group of family and friends and go up together to the mountaintop of your choice…and be sure to post photos of your mountaintop experience on BridgeBuilders Facebook page!
Our theme scripture for the year 2019:
“Come let us go to the mountain of the Lord…that He may teach us concerning His ways, and that we may walk in His paths” (Isaiah 2:3).
In this season of realignment of God’s plumbline in every sphere of society, our focus turns in worship to the Lord who alone is able to win the battle of reclaiming the heart of our nation.
Since New Years Day 2000, small groups of Christians have quietly ascended various Arizona mountaintops on New Year’s sunrise and at other strategic times. Each year BridgeBuilders, and other ministries and churches of all denominations gather as families and friends and head for the mountaintop of your choice to meet with God and usher in the New Year.
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord…that He may teach us concerning His ways, and that we may walk in His paths.” -Isaiah 2:3
“Hear now what the Lord is saying, “Arise, plead your case before the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice.” -Micah 6:1
“Let them shout for joy from the tops of the mountains. Let them give glory to the Lord, and declare His praise from the coastlands. The Lord will go forth like a warrior, He will arouse His zeal like a man of war. He will utter a shout, yes, He will raise a war cry. He will prevail against His enemies” – Isaiah 42:11-12
There are hundreds of passages in the Bible in which significant spiritual events take place on mountaintops, high places and at gateways. Intercession, warfare and the tearing down of idols, vision and revelation, and personal and corporate encounters with God occur in such places. We know of no better way to usher in the New Year. We consistently receive testimonies of God’s presence and answers to prayer.
It is our great desire to invite the Lord of Hosts and renew our dedication of the land that He may transform our state and nation. Let us know if you would like to host a location a mountaintop, high place, coast site or any important gateway near you. If a geographic high place does not work for you, you can also consider choosing a site connected to any of the seven mountains of cultural influence in your area: government, business, education, media, family, religion, or arts & entertainment.
As a general guideline, most mountaintop prayer teams will want to meet at about 6:30am, depending on the amount of hiking time needed to get to the top of the mountain by sunrise (which varies slightly year to year). The suggested timeline is as follows for a 7:33 sunrise:
Mountaintop hikers need to wear layered clothing appropriate for the changes of temperature and hiking conditions. If the mountaintop location requires a strenuous hike, the hiker will get warm on the way up, but then need to be prepared for cool/cold, windy conditions at the top. The mountaintop team leader(s) should scout out the trail and location in advance. Hikers should bring a water bottle and Bible if possible. Provisions for communion and a shofar or trumpet should also be made.
